We are a group of caricature artists servicing Airdrie, Banff, Cochrane, Calgary, Strathmore and more. If we can drive there - we can draw there. We have been drawing live caricatures at festivals, digital caricatures at events and studio illustrations from photos in Calgary since 1991. 2020 has brought us some challenges as gatherings are difficult to commit to these days. We know how much work goes into planning an event!

We start from your photos and theme. A pencil draft is produced which you critique and comment on. Upon receiving your changes we redraw the image according to your feedback. You critique the new draft and approve or request new changes. We repeat these steps in two rounds of changes. Voila. Your first experience as an art director was a success!

What does a caricature artist do?

A caricature artist produces a rendering of something or someone that is stylized in a humerous way. Humor differs from region to region and from country to country but caricatures are universally loved and understood by all people.

A caricature is a likeness that captures a person's physical traits and simultaneously exaggerates them for grotesque or humorous effect. A cartoon is a simplified form of drawing created for humorous or other effect.

What does caricature mean in English?

A drawing that makes someone look funny due to parts of the person's appearance being exaggerated.

Who created the art of caricature?

Honore Daumier is commonly known as the father of modern caricature. He was a highly influential social and political satirist in France.

What is the origin of cartoon?

The use of cartoon to mean a humorous drawing began in the 1800s. Cartoon began in Italian as the word for the material on which a drawing is made, then became the word for the drawing itself.

What is the difference between portrait and caricature?

A caricatue is exaggerated so the proportions do not match the real life

What sizes are caricature pictures?

When drawn on paper they can be anywhere from 4x6 to 11x17 inches. When drawn digitally there are no size restrictions. The same file could be used as a t-shirt design or printed on side of a vehicle.

How much does it cost to get a studio caricature done from photos or live person?

The price depends on number of people or level of detail. our caricature illustrations start from $150.

How much does it cost to hire a caricature artist for an event?

To have a professional caricature artist physically at your live event would cost between $100 - $175+ per hour depending on the artist and location.

How long does a caricature take to draw?

A caricature drawn on the spot takes 2 to 12 minutes depending on level of detail and weather colours are used or not

What do caricature artists use to draw?

With traditional caricature art we use graphite, lead pencils, markers and in some cases brushes. We use pencil crayons for colouring at events. Digital cariatures are drawn on tablet systems using drawing and paiting programs. It is a personal choice. The results will have their distinct looks depending n the media or style used.

What makes a good caricature?

Caricature artists incorporate a good likeness of the subject. Exaggeration of the subject's features is the main characteristic of caricature art. A good caricature say something more about the person than a plain photograh.

How do you start a caricature?

Different artists work differently. Some start with general structure. Some start with one area of the face, develop it and then move on to the next part. What is important is a goo piece of art at the end. How you got there is irrelevant.

Do you tip caricature artist?

Tipping a caricature artist is optional and not mandatory. If you think the work is great it is a sign of gratitude. A caricature artist at an event is usually paid by the host already.
